Family & Parent Counseling

We learn who we are in a family.

Every individual is, in part, a product of the environment they grew up in. Family plays an important role in our emotional, physical, and spiritual development because each individual in the family system impacts and is impacted by the others.

My approach to family therapy prioritizes attachment and connection between family members. Within this context, I work with parents, children, siblings, and extended family members to identify strengths and weaknesses within the family system, and set goals and develop strategies to resolve challenges.

Depending on the unique needs and goals of the family, different combinations of family members may participate in each therapy session.

Parent Coaching

I offer therapeutic parent coaching to parents who either already have a therapist for their child, or feel like they have the tools, but need a safe, understanding and supportive place to process their own experiences, feelings, and reactions to parenting a child with special challenges. I understand the pressures and uncertainty of parenting and am here to walk through these challenges with you.

Adoptive and Foster Families

Many of my clients are foster/adoptive families wanting to strengthen attachment, understand and reduce problematic behaviors, and enjoy each other more. Because a healthy attachment relationship between child and parent is the major curative factor, parents are usually included in therapy sessions.

With adoptive and foster families, I use TBRI, Circle of Security, Theraplay, EMDR, play therapy, and family systems approaches.
